ALMA, Wis. (AP) — A Maiden Rock man has apparently drowned in the Chippewa River near Highway 35 in Buffalo County in western Wisconsin.
WEAU-TV reports the Buffalo County sheriff's department says it happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when the man fell out of the boat while trying to pull start a motor that had stopped working. The department says the man lost his balance and fell into the water.
The department isn't releasing the man's name, but says he was is 57 years old. The other man in the boat tried to help, but failed.
The sheriff says there were no life vests on board, and the man in the boat did not have a cell phone, so it took about a half hour before help was called.
A dive team recovered the body.
