DWI charges: Mankato mayor blood alcohol 3X limit

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — Charges filed against Mankato Mayor John Brady say he was driving with an open bottle of vodka and had a blood alcohol level triple the legal limit.

The Star Tribune reports that Brady has been charged with fourth-degree driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and having an open container of alcohol.

He was arrested Saturday on Interstate 394 in the Minneapolis suburb of Golden Valley. Police say his speech was so slurred that an officer thought he was speaking a foreign language.

Brady, who is running for re-election, is due in court Oct. 13.

Brady was in the Twin Cities to catch a flight to China on city-related business. Reached by phone from China on Tuesday, he told the Star Tribune he was "not worried about anything" and that "I'm just going to get through it."
