MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State officials are holding five public hearings next month around Wisconsin about proposed regulations to protect dogs and dog buyers.

The regulations detail standards that dog breeders and sellers must meet to get and keep their licenses to operate under a new law passed by the Legislature earlier this year.

They cover the dogs' care and condition of the facilities where they are kept and transported. The proposal fleshes out details of how the licensing and inspection program will operate day-to-day.

The hearings are Sept. 20 in Madison, Sept. 23 in Appleton, Sept. 27 in Eau Claire, Sept. 28 in Wausau and Sept. 30 in Milwaukee.
