MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee police say a suspect fired a sawed-off shotgun at two officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire that left another suspect injured. The officers weren't hurt.
Police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz says the officers were on foot patrol Monday night when they approached a suspicious vehicle in an alley. She says a suspect inside fired on them without warning.
Schwartz says the officers returned fire. The vehicle sped off and crashed a few blocks away. All three suspects in the vehicle were arrested.
A 17-year-old suspect had been shot in the wrist. The other suspects are each 18.
Schwartz says all three have criminal records, including arrests for armed robbery and sexual assault.
Both officers have been placed on administrative duty according to department policy.
