MADISON, Wis. (AP) — More than twice as much money than four years ago has been given from Wisconsin contributors to outside political groups working to influence the 2010 elections.

A report released Tuesday by the government watchdog group the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign shows that $1.34 million has been given to the so-called 527 groups in the first six months of the year.

During the same time period in 2006 the groups received about $600,000.

The largest recipient so far this year is the Republican Governors Association which got $353,000. The group has run ads attacking Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett.

The second-highest recipient is a group affiliated with a liberal organization called the Greater Wisconsin Committee. It got $255,000.
