Ahoy! Week promotes Wisconsin ports

Gov. Jim Doyle has declared this week Wisconsin Ports Week.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle has declared this week Wisconsin Ports Week.

The Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin is sponsoring the week to raise awareness of the importance of the state's commercial ports.

The association says the state has 20 commercial ports. More than $7 billion worth of cargo from around the world moves through them annually, generating about $1.3 billion in economic activity.

Ports Week begins Monday and runs through Sunday.
