Great Lakes Pipe remains undefeated in Over 35 Softball League
League playoffs scheduled for Aug. 21
Great Lakes Pipe remained undefeated in the Over 35 Men’s Softball League with an 18-8 win over Jimmy’s Saloon.
GLP was led by Gene Barker, 4-for-4; Steve Anderson, 3-for-4; and JR Anderson, the winning pitcher who was also 3-for-4 with a home run.
Capri Bar also defeated Jack’s Bar 30-28. Capri held a 10-run lead going into the top of the ninth inning, but Jack’s exploded for eight runs and had two men on base when the final out was recorded.
Jack’s was led by the hitting of John Velin and Mark LaPorte, who each hit home runs, and Tom Sokoloski. The Capri was led by lead-off man John Spalding, who was 3-for-4 with a triple, and John Benoit, who was 3-for-5 with an inside-the-park home run. Dave Massoglia was the winning pitcher, who also had three hits, including a triple.
Great Lakes Pipe also defeated O’Neill’s Pub 27-5 with Mike (Louie) Loziach Sr. going 6-for-6 and Ray Kosey and Ken Mertz each going 6-for-7. One of Mertz’s hits was a home run.
Lost in the 50’s improved to 7-3 with a 21-11 win over Village Pump. Al Kurtz Jr. and Ken Schlichting both went 4-for-5.
The playoffs are scheduled for Aug. 21 at the 58th Street Complex with the probability of an upper and lower division, double elimination format.
