Communications sporadic in parts of St. Louis County

A cut fiber optic cable is affecting communications in St. Louis County communities.

A cut fiber optic cable is affecting communications in St. Louis County communities.

The St. Louis County 911 Communications is reporting a cut fiber optic cable that is affecting 911 and other telephone services.

The cable was cut by crews working about six miles north of Aurora, Minn., according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department.

People in Ely, Babbitt, Floodwood, International Falls, McGregor, Aurora, Tower, Two Harbors, and Ranier won’t be able to call 911 in an emergency. Phone service in these areas is said to be sporadic and cellular and landlines are affected.

As a precaution, fire departments in those area have been paged and will be on standby until emergency service is restored.
