STOUGHTON, Wis. (AP) — Dane County sheriff's officials say a driver committed suicide after a deputy chased his vehicle near Stoughton.

The deputy tried stopping the vehicle Monday afternoon in the Town of Pleasant Springs following a reckless driving complaint, but the driver took off and the deputy pursued.

Authorities say the chase was terminated when the driver headed for a residential area in Stoughton.

Sheriff's officials say when the deputy caught up with the man, he got out of his car with a handgun. Other deputies responded and after a brief standoff, the man shot himself in the head.

WMTV-TV reports the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
