MADISON (AP) — Rescuers in Dane County have resumed their search for a 30-year-old swimmer who disappeared while swimming in Lake Mendota.
The sheriff's office says Sarah E. Carpenter of Madison was swimming with friends Tuesday afternoon when she began to drift away from their boat. Friends told authorities she was holding a life jacket but let go of it. She went under and didn't resurface.
Rescuers searched for three hours Tuesday night, but were unable to find her. They continued searching Wednesday morning.
