MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle was expected to sign an agreement Thursday with California that he hopes will generate collaboration between stem cell researchers.

The agreement, with the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, is similar to those the state agency has signed with Maryland, New York and other countries.

Institute chairman Bob Klein says the declaration is the first step toward future joint research projects into cures for juvenile diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's and other diseases.

The Wisconsin State Journal says no specific research projects or funding have been identified for the collaboration.
