A semi-truck driver who failed to yield the right of way caused an accident at the base of the Blatnik Bridge that tied up traffic for about an hour Tuesday afternoon.
According to an accident report filed by Superior Police Officer Chris Moe, the semi truck driven by Osie C. Cook of Antigo, Wis. was heading southbound off the Blatnik Bridge. That off ramp is controlled by a stop sign to allow northbound traffic to access the bridge on-ramp. The semi truck pulled out from the stop sign in front of a northbound GMC truck that was pulling a trailer with a piece of equipment on it, according to the report. Cook was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way.
Four people were involved in the accident – the two drivers as well as two passengers in the truck. One of the passengers, a 16-year-old boy, was transported by ambulance to a Duluth hospital after complaining of injuries. The semi driver was bleeding from a minor arm injury, but declined medical attention.
The truck was towed due to damage sustained in the accident.
