Search for missing kayaker resumes

TOWN OF HOLLAND, Wis. (AP) — A search resumed Thursday off the shores of eastern Wisconsin for a 9-year-old Illinois girl who fell out of a kayak on Lake Michigan during a family outing.

Sheboygan County sheriff's officials say strong winds blew Sofia Khan's kayak about 20 yards off shore at the Town of Holland Wednesday. The girl's father tried to reach his daughter, but found an empty kayak.

Rescue boats and personnel from a number of agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, searched for the girl, who authorities said is from the Chicago area. A Coast Guard helicopter from Traverse City, Mich., also participated in the search.
