The statewide ban on indoor smoking going into effect July 5 will mean significant changes for Wisconsin’s Veterans Homes.
“We must follow the law, like everyone else,” says spokesperson Sara Stinski. “Although these are not going to be easy changes, veterans are a uniquely caring group of people. I believe everyone living at the homes does understand the health risks associated with smoking and would not want to put fellow members, staff or volunteers at risk.”
The Wisconsin Veterans Homes at King and Union Grove have designated outdoor smoking areas that are easily accessible. Support for those interested in smoking cessation will be offered as part of the overall change in smoking policy.
Staff members, visitors to the homes, and residents of Veterans Assistance Program (VAP) facilities will also be affected by the new ban on indoor smoking.
Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs has set a date of July 5, 2015, for all facilities to go completely smoke-free.
