RACINE, Wis. (AP) — A Racine County woman will be sentenced Monday for striking and killing a bicyclist while intoxicated.
Forty-five-year-old Janell D. Gehrke of Franksville pleaded guilty in March to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. In return prosecutors dismissed five other charges.
Prosecutors say Gehrke was driving home in the summer of 2008 after drinking with a friend. They say she struck and killed Nancy Sellars and critically injured a second bicyclist. She then allegedly drove to her mother's house nearby and had a friend call 911.
Gehrke told authorities she had taken medication for attention-deficit disorder and had "a few beers."
She faces up to 25 years in prison.
