UWS students win broadcast news awards
University of Wisconsin-Superior students who report news for KUWS-FM 91.3 recently received 12 awards from Northwest Broadcast News Association. The Eric Sevareid Awards were presented April 17 at the association’s Midwest Journalism Conference in Bloomington, Minn.

The Eric Sevareid Awards were presented April 17 at the association’s Midwest Journalism Conference in Bloomington, Minn.
Awards and students who received them include the following: Rich Kremer of Superior earned an audio award of merit for “Roller Dames,” a first place audio award for “Copper Creek Motorway,” a first place broadcast writing award for “Racial Profiling,” first place general reporting award for “Congressman v. High School Students,” hard feature awards of merit for “Alamo Duluth Lynching and “Sex Assault Conference,” a first place series award for “Hell’s Angels” and a sports reporting award of merit for “Copper Creek Motorway”; Catherine Hannula of Superior earned a broadcast writing award of merit for “Slazar Visits Apostles”; Laura Podgornik of Proctor, Minn., Chelsea Einerwold of Staples, Minn., Carl Lindquist of Superior and Joe Cadotte of Duluth earned a first place award for a documentary or special for “Hand in Hands: Volunteering”; Cadotte earned a first place newscast award for “KUWS Morning News”; and Kremer and Cadotte earned a first place series award for “Racial Profiling.”
