Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College Barber/Cosmetology instructor Patty Prytz has recently been selected by the University of Wisconsin-Stout School of Education faculty and staff to receive the 2009-2010 Career and Technical Education Training Exemplary Service Award. This award recognizes service provided to UW-Stout by teachers who have shared their professional expertise and guidance for its students.
“I was surprised,” said Prytz. “I wasn’t aware that I had done anything out of the ordinary. I guess whenever a student needs help I am always willing to give a hand.”
Jacalyn Weissenburger, director of the UW-Stout School of Education, found Prytz to excel in several areas. These included: student teacher/practicum student supervision; providing appropriate assessment and feedback; encouraging reflection through various means; giving constructive and appropriate feedback to student teachers/ practicum students; good modeling; commitment to her profession and higher education teacher programs; and encouraging involvement by the student in family and the community.
“I could not think of a more deserving person than Patty,” said Twila Sauve, academic dean of family and consumer services at WITC. “Patty has worked with the Rice Lake Barber Cosmetology program since its inception 20 years ago. Her dedication to her students has gone beyond the time she spends with them in the classroom, as she strives to instill within them the importance of professionalism, community and giving back. Patty has a heart of gold and each of her students holds a special place in it.”
Prytz will receive a certificate and a check for $100 to show appreciation for her exemplary work with UW-Stout students.
