No one knows better the price of freedom than the loved ones of a fallen soldier.
Now you can ride Memorial Day weekend during the fourth annual “Support the Troops” fundraiser to help the families of fallen soldiers and returning heroes.
Proceeds of the ride and even will be given in memory of Marine Sgt. Chad Allen of Dairyland, killed Feb. 28, 2007, in Iraq, during his second deployment.
Proceeds benefit families of fallen service members through the Minnesota Memorial Riders Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and American Gold Star Mothers Inc., and returning heroes through the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
Participants in the memorial ride can enjoy free camping at the Cozy Corner Inn. Shower, ice, propane and a full menu restaurant is available on site.
The memorial ride takes place at 10:30 a.m. May 29 starting at the Cozy Corner Inn. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Riders return to the Cozy Corner Inn at 5 p.m. for dinner, a silent auction and dance with music by the variety band, Time and a Half.
The $25 donation includes a free memorial bandana, chance at hourly raffles, lunch and dinner.
The final drawing for the silent auction is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night and 100 percent of the proceeds go to the “Support the Troops Fund.”
On May 30, riders head to the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. Riders leave Cozy Corner Inn at 9:45 a.m. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.
To register in advance for the event, send your name, address and mode of transportation, along with your $25 donation to “Support the Troops Fund,” 16433 S. Old Highway 35, Danbury, WI 54880.
