The Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department has identified people involved in a fatal hit and run accident Thursday in the town Barnes.
According to the sheriff’s department news release, emergency service personnel arrived at 2770 Lake Road to find a person lying in the driveway critically injured. Witness told deputies a pickup truck had driven over 38-year-old Paul Rauwolf of Barnes.
Rauwolf was transported by the Barnes ambulance but was pronounced dead before arriving at the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 42-year-old Charles Quick of Gordon. Quick was arrested at his home by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department about an hour after the incident. He appeared in Bayfield County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon. Charges filed against Quick were unavailable late today.
A $50,000 signature bond was set, said Bayfield County Chief Deputy Paul Susienka
The Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office made three additional arrests on Friday. The three men were involved in a fight with Quick just before Rauwolf was run over by the pickup truck. Several other people are expected to be interviewed.
The motive for the fight is not clear at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m.
