Two hurt when Amish buggy in Southwest Wisconsin struck
MT. HOPE, Wis. (AP) — Authorities in southwest Wisconsin are looking for the driver who struck an Amish buggy and fled, leaving one buggy passenger in the road with severe injuries.
The Grant County sheriff's department was notified of the crash Friday about 1:15 a.m.
Deputies say the buggy was traveling west on U.S. Highway 18 near Mt. Hope when it was struck from behind, ejecting both riders.
Sixteen-year-old Jacob Stoltzfus suffered severe head and neck injuries, while 17-year-old Steven Stoltzfus had minor injuries. Both are from Mt. Hope.
Deputies say the horse that was pulling the buggy was last seen running down the highway.
Sheriff's officials are asking for help locating the hit-and-run driver. They say the driver's vehicle likely has heavy front-end damage.
