Sheriff's department cancels sex offender release meetingThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Department cancels meeting after property owners decides against renting to sex offender.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department canceled a meeting concerning a sex offender release planned for Tuesday in Summit.
The owner of the property at 8080 State Highway 35 in Foxboro decided against renting the property to Richard Morisett Jr., 34, said Detective Sgt. Ed Anderson.
Morisett was convicted of two counts of two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child on Nov. 6, 1998. He was also convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child in 1996. In both cases, he was convicted after performing oral sex on 6-year-old girls known by him, according to the sheriff’s department.
Morisett is 5-foot-9 and weighs about 130 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
With the landlord deciding against renting the property, Anderson said the state is back to square one in determining community placement.
