Two killed in Bayfield County accident
Two people were killed in a one-vehicle accident in Bayfield County early Saturday morning.
DRUMMOND (AP) -- Two Minnesota men were killed in a one-vehicle accident in Bayfield County early Saturday morning.
Coty A. Gustafson, 22, of Mentor, Minn., and David W. Kurtz, 29, of Climax, Minn., both were dead at the scene of the accident on state Highway 63 near Birchwood Road in the town of Drummond, the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
The accident occurred about 1 a.m. today when the 2007 GMC pickup truck left the road and struck a tree at high speed, the release said. It appeared a picnic table in the bed of the truck fell out and may have distracted the driver. Vehicle parts and debris were scattered across hundreds of feet.
Gustafson was pinned in the vehicle. Kurtz was ejected.
A toxicology report is pending, and the accident remains under investigation.
