The Northwestern boys golf team pulled out a scrappy win at the Ashland golf invitational held Thursday at Chequamegon Bay golf club.
The Tigers’ team score of 342 edged out Ashland and Cloquet by one stroke. Ashland’s fifth golfer score helped sealed second place for the Oredockers.
Low shooters for the Tigers were Gabe Dinkel, 81; Justin Alexson, 82; Ian Lattery, 88; Grant Pearson, 91; and Peter Lindsay, 93.
Dinkel’s score was good for fourth place.
“Scoring conditions were tough,” NHS coach Gary Swanson said. “We played from the course from the tips so with that added yardage and cold windy conditions it put a premium on being able to scramble for pars.
“Ashland will host the WIAA Regionals in the season so this was a good test for us but even with this win we have a lot of work left to do.”
Hurley’s Alex Golan was the meet medalist with 79.
The Tigers are at Bloomer at 4 p.m. Monday.
