Wisconsin teen accused of stealing coin worth $19,000

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (AP) — A 17-year-old rural Plymouth girl is accused of stealing a rare coin worth $19,000 from her mother's boyfriend.

The Sheboygan Press says Lindsey J. Devine was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor theft. The charge carries a maximum penalty of nine months in jail.

The criminal complaint says the boyfriend called police last month to report the coin and others missing from his bedroom. He told investigators he suspected Devine because she had taken other things in the past.

He said the missing items included his prized possession — an 1886 Morgan silver dollar worth $19,000. He said other silver dollars were also taken.

The complaint quotes Devine as telling a deputy she took a regular dollar coin and $50 worth of change but didn't know anything about the valuable silver dollars.
