University of Wisconsin Extension hosts the Lake Superior Farming Conference March 5-6 in Superior.
UW-Extension and the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association are pleased to announce the Lake Superior Farming Conference will be held at Barker’s Island Inn.
The conference begins at 1 p.m. March 5 with two intensive training sessions to choose from: Season Extension for Growers in the Lake Superior Region or Organic Soil Management for Healthy Fertile Soil.
The conference continues March 6 at 8:30 a.m. with a full day of presentations. The morning features presentations on selling food to hospitals and an update on work being done to understand better our Western Lake Superior food system.
The afternoon includes sessions on farm business, organic pest management, and meat production. Topics to be covered include operating a CSA business, forming a farm partnership business, selling wholesale, organic control of fruit and vegetable pests, organic lamp production, grass-finished beef and hog production.

The cost for the Friday intensive training sessions is $40/person. The cost for the Saturday conference is $30/person. The registration fee includes speakers, printed materials, breaks and a local foods lunch on Saturday.
Registration is requested by Feb. 26. Scholarships are available.
