Harry Conley resigned as head coach of the Superior Central High School football team after 22 years of service. He will become athletic director at Central and will serve as physical education director of high school and junior high schools in Superior. He will be succeeded as football coach by Marvin Crowley, his assistant, now on leave of absence for an army refresher course at Fort Sill, Okla. (1951)
Forward Stan Ladich and center Bob Olson each scored 26 points to power Superior Central High School to a 74-57 win over Westboro in the sectional finals of the state basketball tournament in Spooner. (1954)
The Co-op Foods team, champions of the Superior Senior Basketball League and sporting a 14-game unblemished record, is entered in the Wisconsin Amateur Basketball Tournament in West Allis. The team roster reads like a “Who’s Who in Superior Basketball, including such well-known names as Mike and Ed Stranko, Bob VanDriessche, Tim Kelly, Roger Donley, Jack Stark and Gene Evens. (1958)
Sharpshooting Jim Sevals, a 5-foot-5 junior guard from Barron on the Superior State University basketball team, was named to the Wisconsin State University All-Conference team for the second consecutive year. (1966)
Jim Lehto, at 81 pounds, and Joe Reasbeck, a 99-pounder, each won two matches as the Superior Junior High wrestling team swept a triple-dual meet in Cameron. The Superiorites defeated Cameron 36-30, Flambeau 28-24 and Minong 22-6. Lehto scored a pin and decision, while Reasbeck’s two wins came on decisions (1982)
