The St. Louis River Alliance recently honored SMDC Health System with its 2009 Environmental Stewardship Award.
Dianne Witten, director of retail pharmacies, and Dick Spehar, director of acute care pharmacies, accepted the plaque during an awards ceremony. SMDC’s pharmacy staff members were nominated by the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District for their role in medication collection events at WLSSD’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
“We feel honored to be recognized for this program,” Spehar says.
The award recognizes several individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to environmental stewardship in the St. Louis River area.
“Support of medication collection events reflects our commitment to our community and the environment,” Witten says.
SMDC pharmacy staff members were involved in a medication collection event in November and again last month. Another collection is scheduled for March 19 at WLSSD’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Duluth.
