Marilyn J. Samson, 82, of Grand Forks, N.D. passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Marilyn Jean McKenzie was born July 23, 1927, in Superior, Wis. the daughter of Daniel and Frances (Mooney) McKenzie. She was raised in Superior, graduating from Cathedral of Christ the King High School and later from the University of Wisconsin at Superior with a degree in Elementary Education. Following her graduation, she taught at Patterson Elementary School in Superior. Marilyn married Edward H. Samson on Aug. 22, 1951, in the Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior. Following their marriage, they lived in Superior until moving to Grand Forks in 1959. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and volunteered at the Grand Forks Food Cupboard. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was actively involved in the lives of her family. She especially enjoyed gardening and decorating her home for hosting family functions.
She is survived by, her husband, Edward; her sons, Daniel (Sandy) Samson, Grand Forks, N.D., Jim (Marsha) Samson, Devils Lake, N.D., Joe (Bridget) Samson, Apple Valley, Minn.; a daughter, Kathy (Lex) Prenevost, Minnetonka, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Cindy (Mrs. Thomas) Samson, Grand Forks, N.D.; a sister, Kay (Mrs. Ralph) Taylor, Trenton, Mich.; grandchildren, Pat, Brian, Heather, Scott, Leah, Paul, Sam, Nik, MeKenzie; and great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jacob.
She was preceded in death by, her parents; a son, Thomas; a sister, Marjorie McKenzie and a grandson, Stevie Samson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, N.D.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. vigil service and 4:30 p.m. rosary service in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral liturgy in the church on Saturday.
Interment will be at Catholic Cemetery, Superior, at a later date.
