Bogojevic is 2-0 at state wrestling tournament

Superior High School’s Nikola Bogojevic won his first two matches at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament Thursday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Bogojevic (46-0) won his first match in the Division 1 285-pound weight class by pinning Seth Brand of Reedsburg Area in 37 seconds. He then won a 5-2 decision over Slinger’s Jake Schall.

Schall advanced with a 7-4 decision over Nevada Skenador of Pulaski.

Bogojevic advances to the Division 1 semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday against Najee Parker of Kenosha Tremper. Parker (48-2) advanced with a 7-2 decision over Bryce Gilbert of Brookfield Central and a pin in 1:16 over Josh Remsza of Cudahy/St. Francis.

The championship match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday.

Also advancing to the semifinals were Bill Mitchell (17-0) of South Milwaukee and Evan Knutson (49-2) of Wausau West, who pinned Baraboo’s Jordan Mukite in 2:28 and won 2-1 in double overtime over Curt Fuller of Wisconsin Rapids.

Mitchell won a 3-0 decision over Joe Sychner of Badger and pinned Alex Cochrane of Kettle Moraine in 1:36.

Bogojevic, who entered the state tournament ranked No. 1, defeated Knutson, ranked No. 2, in last week’s sectional championship match.
