The 15th annual Lake Superior Photo Contest drew such a flood of great images to Lake Superior Magazine that for the first time contest images are sprinkled throughout the February/March issue announcing the winners.

“We consider it something of a photographic treasure hunt,” says Editor Konnie LeMay. “The contest photos are labeled, but readers may be surprised where they turn up.”

The Grand Prize, First and Second Place winners, along with many Honorable Mention awards, are part of the magazine’s main photo feature. Additional finalists are found at www.lakesuperior.com.

This year 240 entries with more than 1,700 images were submitted. Those honored ranged from regional residents to as far away as Cincinnati, Ohio.

The grand prize winter, Jennifer Dalquist of St. Louis Park, Minn., captured sailboaters doused by a splash near Madeline Island.

A Superior photographer, Joe Kubala, took second place in the nature category for a perfect-moment shot of gulls on wooden piers in Duluth.

Keith Nordskog of Solon Springs was a finalist in the nature category.
