CHIPPEWA FALLS (AP) — Chippewa County authorities are looking for the vandals who broke into some 50 ice shacks, stealing gear and destroying equipment.
The sheriff's department says the break-ins occurred Thursday night on Otter Lake. Three groups have each chipped in $500 toward a $1,500 reward.
Dave Meinen of Cadott says the door to his shack was broken, and gear was stolen or dumped in the lake. When asked what he thought of the people who did it, he told WEAU-TV his comments weren't fit for broadcast.
Sixteen-year-old Dalton Schmitt says he and his dad planned to use their shack this weekend, but someone smashed the window out of their permanent shack. He's hoping for an arrest.
The sheriff's department say there are no suspects yet.
