Snow back in town

With a winter storm warning in effect, area residents dug out from weekend snowfall Monday. The winter weather caused school closings at Maple and South Shore school districts Monday.

With a winter storm warning in effect Monday, Douglas County residents dug out from weekend snowfall. The winter weather caused school closings at Maple and South Shore school districts Monday. In addition, the Brule Head Start site was closed.

Over the weekend, 8.5 inches of snow piled up in Oulu, according to National Weather Service reports. The weekend snow total in Maple was 6.5 inches. In Patzau, 14 inches were reported.

Colder air moved into the area today, freezing the last of the puddles in Superior.

The forecast for today is partly sunny with highs of 10 to 15 and west winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight is expected to be partly cloudy with lows 1 below to 6 below zero inland and zero to 5 above zero near Lake Superior. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Wind chill values 10 below to 20 below zero.

Wednesday is expected to be sunn with scattered flurries in the afternoon. Highs 9 to 14. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 20 percent. Lowest wind chill readings 10 below to 20 below zero in the morning.

Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with occasional flurries through the night. Lows will dip to 6 below to 11 below zero inland and 3 below to 2 above zero near Lake Superior. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Wind chill values 15 below to 25 below zero.
