Superior: Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast returns to Wisconsin Public Radio with Opera “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” with composer Jacques Offenbach at noon.

Duluth: Lois Duffey signs “Zillah’s Gift” noon-1 p.m. and John Koblas signs “The Phantom of the North Shore” 1-2 p.m. at Northern Lights Books & Gifts, 307 Canal Park Drive.

Duluth: Another Third Saturday Barn Dance runs at 7 p.m. at Peace Church, 1111 11th Ave. E. Music by the Merry Little Band. Smoke and alcohol free. New dancers welcome. Superior: Wisconsin Public Radio plays its 2009 holiday programming on 91.3 FM with “Music of the Baroque Christmas” from 10 a.m. to noon, and “Messiah with the Pittsburgh Symphony” noon to 2 p.m.

Superior: Area clergy members share readings from “A Christmas Candle” beginning at 3 p.m. at Fairlawn Mansion. Admission is $4 for adults. Children age 12 and younger are free with any paid admission. Seating is limited. Call (715) 394-5712 for reservations.

Lake Nebagamon: Story Time begins at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the McGrath Memorial Library, 11622 E. Highway B. Children are invited to hear stories and drink hot chocolate with Heather Kitzmann, a senior at Northwestern High School.

Friday

Superior: Wisconsin Public Radio will be playing its 2009 holiday programming on 91.3 FM with “A Chanticleer Christmas” 9-10 a.m., “Christmas around the Country” 10-11 a.m., “Choirs and Carols” from 11 a.m. to noon, “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” noon to 2 p.m. and “A Christmas Carol with Jonathan Winters” 2-3 p.m.

Duluth: The Lake Superior Singles meets at 3 p.m. for a Christmas potluck at Carol’s. We will eat by 5 p.m. Must register early (218) 940-2248.
