HAYWARD -- The body of a homicide suspect believed to be involved in two structure fires has been identified.
Arthur A. Garcia, 31, of Stone Lake was found in the ruins of a mobile home fire Sunday morning in Washburn County, near Spooner.
Garcia apparently shot himself and then was incinerated on a pile of burning tires, according to the Sawyer County Sheriff's Department.
A backpack near the body contained three pipe bombs, which the Marathon County bomb squad removed.
Two handguns were found in the mobile home debris, including one believed to be used in the murder Saturday night of David Palm, 43, of Birchwood.
Palm's body was discovered in the ruins of a fire at 1332 Highway F, Sawyer County.
Officials say Garcia "informed several acquaintances that he was responsible for the death of David Palm and the arson at the Palm residence," the Sheriff's Department said.
Garcia and Palm's sister had a child as a result of a relationship, which ended about two years ago. Officials believe Garcia still was upset about the breakup and about child custody issues.
