On Tuesday more than 230 juniors from Superior High School took part in the “WITC-Superior Career Day 2009” held on campus at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College-Superior.
Students were given class schedules that allowed them to sample five programs areas. Schedules were created based on each student pre-registering for programs that interested them. This “a la carte” style of scheduling creates an opportunity to discover which career fields they may want to pursue. WITC instructors and students created 45 minutes sessions for the SHS students to learn about specific aspects of that program. SHS students were able to explore a wide variety of careers including: accounting, EMT, marketing, barber & cosmetology, nursing, machine tool, welding, corrections and more. On campus lunch and entertainment were provided.
This is the sixth year of the collaborative education project between SHS and Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College-Superior. The event is part of SHS’s Small Learning Communities.
