'Radio Superior' to begin its 11th season on KUWS-FM
Duluth will be featured on “Radio Superior” as it begins its 11th season on Wisconsin Public Radio station KUWS-FM (91.3 Superior).
Hosted by radio veterans Lew Martin, Ray Paulsen and Tim Michaels, “Radio Superior” will begin with an hour-long special from March 6, 1953 with the historic news is the death of Soviet Union Premier Joseph Stalin.
“Radio Superior” will also feature “Duluth Days” in this episode, with advertisements from former Duluth businesses Hub Clothing, Frank’s Meat Market, Goldfine’s Trading Post, Elliott’s Meats, Wahl’s Department Store and Freimuth’s. You can even get Gold Bond and S&H trading stamps at these stores.
“Radio Superior” airs Friday evenings at 5:30 p.m. on KUWS-FM. It’s a locally produced re-creation of radio as how it may have sounded on specific dates in history, complete with news, advertisements, music and even the day’s weather report. “Radio Superior” first aired in 1999 with Lew Martin and Jack McKenna. McKenna has since retired but makes occasional appearances including in some upcoming episodes from this 11th season.
This season will also feature the execution of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg as atom spies and the end of the Korean War.
