Body found in Sawyer County vehicle fire

A person was found dead Wednesday morning in a vehicle fire in rural Sawyer County, according to a Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Authorities arrived at a residence about 18 miles east of Hayward on Sawyer County Highway B at about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the release, a dead body was found inside the burnt vehicle after the fire was extinguished. The vehicle was registered to the owner of the residence.

Authorities are treating the death as “suspicious” and will wait for an autopsy in Ramsey County to determine a cause of death.

The person’s identity was not released.
