Senior Gerrod Richard did it all for the Northwood-Solon Springs football team Friday night in the Evergreens’ homecoming game against the Weyerhaeuser-Birchwood Wildcats.
Richard, who began the season as a fullback, took over as quarterback in the game and threw for 130 yards and three touchdowns. He also continued his strong running game, rushing for 160 yards and another touchdown as the Evergreens won 27-8.
“We are now playoff eligible, but it’s dependent upon this Thursday’s game,” said Evergreens coach Jason Fox.
The Evergreens, 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the Small Lakeland Conference, host Turtle Lake at 7 p.m. Thursday in Minong.
In Thursday’s game, Richard is again expected to serve as quarterback. Phillip Larson was the Evergreens’ quarterback previously, and Fox said the Solon Springs sophomore will return to that role next season.
Against the Wildcats, Larson found success in another role. He lined up as a target for Richard and caught two touchdown passes to account for about half of the Evergreens’ scoring. Josh Malone, also a sophomore, ran for 50 yards.
