Thoughts and prayers to the Granlunds

By: By Don Leighton, For The Telegram, Superior Telegram

Billy Pirkola, aka Mike Granlund, has lost someone very dear to him. His father, Bill, passed away this past Monday at the age of 87. A father and son have a very special relationship if they are lucky, and Mike and his dad had that type of connection.

Bill Granlund married the love of his life, Bertha, on Christmas Day, 1946. It probably seems to Mike’s mom that the past 62 years have passed in the blink of an eye. We have all lost someone dear to us, so it is easy to relate to those emotions reserved for this somber time. Never forget whom we have lost and always embrace those we still have.

Please have Mike and his mother in your thoughts and prayers this Saturday, as the funeral will be held in Iron River. I have never met Mike’s mother and missed the opportunity to meet his dad. Take advantage of your opportunities.

Bertha, you have the condolences of many. Mike has learned to be the person he is from you and Bill.

Bill must have been quite a man.
