NHS volleyball team finishes third

The Northwestern High School volleyball team defeated the Spooner Rails 3-0 Tuesday night on the road. The Tigers took the first set 25-14, the second 25-22 and the third 25-13.

The Tigers took the first set 25-14, the second 25-22 and the third 25-13.

Anna Morgan led Northwestern in kills with 13 and also had five ace serves. Jaclyn Amys added eight kills for the Tigers, and Melissa Hogfeldt had 22 set assists.

Last weekend, the Northwestern volleyball team finished third in the Hudson Invite. The Tigers won two of their three matches in pool play and then defeated Prescott 2-0 in the third-place game.

In pool play, Northwestern started off with a 2-0 loss to Somerset (25-16, 25-19). The Tiger girls then won matches with Menomonie 2-0 (25-21, 25-21) and Bloomer 2-1 (25-22, 23-25, 15-12).

Northwestern got up early in the third-place game with Prescott, taking the opening set 25-16. The second set was closer, but Prescott couldn’t quite stay with the Tigers as Northwestern won 25-21 to take the match 2-0.

For the tournament, Anna Morgan led NHS in kills and digs both with 40 kills and 22 digs. Jaclyn Amys added 36 kills for the Tigers, and Melissa Hogfeldt had 96 set assists.

Northwestern holds a 1-0 record in the Heart O’ North Conference and a 6-3 record overall. The Tigers are next in action Thursday when they host Cumberland in an HON match. Thursday’s game, which is also Parents’ Night, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
