Reunion inspires scholarshipAll-school Central reunion group opens shop to raise money for scholarship
When the graduating classes of Superior’s Central High School and former junior high school students got together in 2004, about 1,000 people gathered.
And plans are on track for another all-school reunion Aug. 3-4, 2010.
Now, in addition to planning the grand get-together, the reunion committee is working on a scholarship fund.
The group has opened the Sales Shoppe at Belknap Street and Hill Avenue in support of the effort. The Shoppe sells memorabilia such as sweatshirts, t-shirts, caps, pens and postcards. It is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Anyone who wants to lend a hand in the store can call Ron Cain at 392-8985 or Mary Robek at 394-5400.
Anyone who wants to contribute to the scholarship fund can send donations to Pat Higgins, 5215 Tower Ave., Superior WI 54880.
The reunion is open to anyone who attended the former Central School whether they graduated or not, according to committee member Mary Robek.
“The idea is to connect with old friends,” she said.
Built in 1909, the school served as a high school until 1965. It closed as a middle school in 2003.
Carol Reasbeck is the reunion event chairwoman.
Name and address changes should be forwarded to Marlene Case at 399-8152 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The next meeting is 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at C’s Lounge and all Central graduates are welcome.
