‘Practice of a Lifetime’ with Boston Bruin is Aug. 15 in Duluth

Play It Again Sports and Bauer Hockey announced Superior High School’s Kyler Moss is the winner of the inaugural “Practice of a Lifetime” Sweepstakes.

The 15-year-old forward scored the opportunity to share the ice with Phil Kessel of the Boston Bruins in an upcoming practice from 8 to 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug 15 at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center in Duluth.

Moss and Kessel will be joined on the ice with 20 of Moss’ teammates from the Superior Bantam B Spartans and Superior Mariners midget team.

“I entered the contest because I figured it was worth a shot, and Phil Kessel is a hockey player I’ve looked up to for a couple years,” Moss said. “I’m really excited to host a hockey practice with him and my teammates. I can’t wait to learn some tips and tricks that he has to share.”

Moss frequents the Play It Again Sports stores in Superior and Duluth, and filled out a sweepstakes form while shopping for hockey gear. He never thought that he’d be the lucky teen to win the sweepstakes.

“My teammates are very thankful that I entered the contest, and are looking forward to this hockey practice just as much as I am,” Moss said.

Kessel, a Madison native and forward for the Bruins, is the USA Hockey National and Development Team’s all-time leader in goals and points. In his NHL rookie year, he was awarded the 2007 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, an annual recognition for the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.

“I look forward to hosting practice with Kyler,” Kessel said in a release. “I was in his skates once and now I’m playing in the NHL. I’m in a fortunate position to be a positive influence on aspiring teenagers. I look forward to encouraging the teens in Superior to stick with their dream and never give up.”

The event is open to the public and the first 1,000 people to pick up free tickets at Play It Again Sports locations in Superior and Duluth will have the opportunity to watch the practice and take part in a drawing, with prizes provided by Bauer Hockey.

“Kyler is such a great kid,” said Chris Stenberg, owner of the Play It Again Sports in Superior where Moss entered the sweepstakes. “It’s great to know that one of our customers won this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I hope that Kyler enjoys his time on the ice with Phil Kessel.”
