The Superior Reds American Legion baseball team wrapped up its season with a pair of losses in the Wisconsin District Tournament last weekend in Chippewa Falls.
Superior lost to La Crosse Post 52 16-5 in seven innings and the La Crosse Northstars 7-3. Prior to playing in Chippewa Falls, Superior lost 6-0 at Cloquet on July 16.
The Reds finished the year 14-15.
Playing their final games for the Reds, who finished the season with a 14-15 record, were Stariha, Engstrom, Swanson, Cory Wilander, Olson, Matt Johnson and Boreen. The Reds are coached by Jim Ross and Rick Kennelly.
La Crosse 16, reds 5
Mike Swanson and Kyle Wilander pitched for the Reds, who were tied with La Crosse Post 52 5-5 in the fifth inning. But La Crosse scored 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning, which should have been a 1-2-3 inning.
Cory Wilander had three hits and an RBI; Stariha doubled, singled and knocked in a run; Jordan Olson, Boreen and Kyle Wilander singled and scored a run each; Swanson doubled, singled and knocked in two runs; and Jake Tokar singled.
Northstars 7, Reds 3
The Reds were leading 3-2 in the fifth inning, but a misplayed ball and errors gave LAC four runs and the eventual win.
Brent Engstrom had two hits and scored a run for the Reds. Reese Stariha doubled and scored a run and Jordan Olson and Nick Boreen singles.
Cory Wilander suffered the loss as the Reds ended the season with three straight losses.
Cloquet 6, Reds 0
