Blues advance to championship game
Superior plays Hermantown-Grand Rapids winner at 5 p.m. today
HERMANTOWN -- The Superior Blues advanced to the championship game of the Lew Eskelson Tournament championship with a 14-2 five-inning win over Hibbing Sunday morning at Fichtner Memorial Field.
The Blues will play the winner of the Hermantown-Grand Rapids game at 5 p.m. Hibbing will play the loser of the same game for third place at 3 p.m.
Al Meehan was the complete-game winning pitcher, allowing just one hit with five strikeouts and four walks.
Hibbing’s two runs came in the third inning on a single and two Blues errors.
Superior scored three times in the first inning, five times in the second, twice in the third and four times in the fourth.
The Blues had 10 hits.
Taylor Olson led the way with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Sam Schiff singled and had three RBIs, Dylan Ramage hit a two-run single, Spencer Koskie doubled in a run, Jordan McDonald and Nick Sitek had RBI ground outs, Marty Manion singled and walked with the bases loaded, Nate Hals tripled and Meehan and Danny Kriedler singled.
The Blues will also be in action at 6 p.m. Monday for a doubleheader at Cloquet. They return home at 6 p.m. Wednesday to host Ashland for two games.
