Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress has given Brett Favre a deadline by the end of this week to decide whether the veteran will be Minnesota's quarterback next season, according to a report today.
But Favre is reluctant to make a decision, according to ESPN.com, before first being more confident that the arthroscopic surgery he had last month on his throwing arm will be successful in fixing the problems that had been caused by a torn biceps tendon.
The Vikings have been waiting for Favre to make up his mind for months, and now there could be a resolution. But the Favre drama has taken so many twists and turns that anything could change at any given moment.
If Favre signs with the Vikings -- the fact that he had the surgery is a strong indication he wants to play again -- he could give the team its most dangerous threat at the quarterback position since Brad Childress took over in 2006.
It makes sense the Vikings would want to see Favre throw before they sign him. The team is scheduled to hold four days of organized team activities (OTAs) this week with the sessions concluding Thursday.
Childress has refused to close the door on signing Favre. He did it again Friday when he said, "I'm not even thinking about that right now. I'm thinking about the next four (OTAs) next week."
