Solon Springs boys and girls suffer setbacks

The Hurley Midgets baseball team made short work of the Solon Springs baseball team with a 14-2 five-inning win Monday evening in Solon Springs.
Hurley scored in all five innings while the Eagles managed just single runs in the first and third innings to fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the Indianhead Conference.
Josh Thiede was the winning pitcher and the big hitter for the Midgets, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored, a double and three-run home run. Dylan Laurin added a pair of doubles.
For Solon Springs, Tyler LaRose suffered the loss with relief from Nick Skaggs.
“We’re not going to win games while committing eight errors,” SSHS coach Nate Ahlberg said.
“Tyler and Nick did a nice job of throwing strikes, but our defense let them down. Credit Hurley with putting the bat on the ball.”
Offensively for the Eagles, LaRose and Ales Rowe had RBI singles and Hank Edwards doubled.
The Eagles were back in action Tuesday at Drummond.
Softball
The SSHS softball team lost to Frederic on Friday 3-2.
The Eagles scored both of their runs in the first inning as Barrett and Hanley singled and scored on Salann Gilbert’s double.
Frederic also scored two runs in the first inning, but then added the winning run in the fourth.
Both team teams were back in action Tuesday at Drummond then both will be in Mellen at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
