Beginning swim, kayaking lessons offered at YMCA

Swimming and water safety lessons for students in second grade is offered at the Superior/Douglas County Family YMCA.

Swimming and water safety lessons for students in second grade is offered at the Superior/Douglas County Family YMCA. Skills taught include basic water safety, flutter kicking, paddlestroke, submerging, back float, front glide and reaching assists. A five week session runs April 20-May 18.

Youth attend one lesson a week for five weeks. Session 1 runs 6:30-7:15 p.m. Mondays and Session 2 runs 4:30- 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays.

Cost of the session is $15. Space is limited. Register at the Superior YMCA, 9 North 21st Street on April 7-8. For information, call Sue 392-5611.

If you’re looking to learn more about another kind of water sport, try sea kayaking in the warm confines of the family pool.

Practice entry and exit procedures, edge control and paddle strokes, bracing and self-rescue, as well as equipment and boat selection. This course is designed to help gain the practical knowledge and skills necessary to explore the coastal waters with entry-level competence.

The class run 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays, April 22-May 13 at the Superior YMCA . Cost is $35 for YMCA Members and $70 for nonmembers.
