The Superior High School girls tennis team lost at Hermantown Thursday, 4-3, but Spartan coach Pete Conley was still pleased with his team’s efforts.
“This was by far our best match of the season,” Conley said. “Hermantown is at the top of the conference, and we had a very good chance to beat them. I was extremely proud of our effort.”
Superior’s Natalie Burger defeated Jojo Carlson in the No. 3 singles match and Raya Kosey and Breanna Minor and Carly Connor and Rikki Berchild won their doubles matches in two sets.
“Natalie played another good match,” Conley said. “She came out strong, but her opponent changed up some things and took the second set. Natalie adapted to the change and fought for every point and came out with a very good win.
“Despite losing, Lexi (Alfsen) and Amanda (Bedard) also played their best match so far this season.”
The Spartans are at Duluth Central at 4:15 p.m. Monday.
