Roy D. Anderson, 86, of Superior died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at his residence.

Roy was born in New Scandia, Minn. on Sept. 10, 1922, the son of Axel and Eva Anderson.
He served in the Army from 1942-1945 during World War II and was involved in the Aleutian Island Campaign.
Roy married the former Grace M. Berthiaume on Aug. 24, 1950, in Superior.
Roy had retired as a general car foreman from the Burlington Northern Railroad after 42 years of service.
He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, and a former member of the Superior Curling Club. Roy was an avid Packer fan. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, but above all he loved spending time with his family.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years on Apr. 23, 2005; his parents; a brother Vern; two sisters Elphie Anderson and June Rosenberg; and his “brothers,” Orren and Lyle Laurvick.
He is survived by his three children, Roger (Carol) Anderson of Superior, Kathy Olson of Superior, and Rich (Tracy) Anderson of Sisters, Ore.; six grandchildren, Pat Anderson of St. Paul, Minn., Lee (Corissa) Anderson of Grand Forks, N. D., Amanda (Michael) Mailloux of Leesburg, Va., Andrea (Matt) Van Horn of Silverdale, Wash., Amber (Mike) Manion of Superior, and Randi Anderson of Sisters, Ore.; three great-grandchildren; a “brother”, Milton Laurvick; a goddaughter, Mary Leggate of Superior; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St Francis Xavier Church with Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Thomas F. Stein V.F.W. Post No.1091 and the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post No. 435.
His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Society. Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th Street and Ogden Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
