Northwestern wins Hudson Invitational

The Northwestern High School volleyball team was in Hudson Saturday for the Hudson Invitational. The Tigers defeated four teams to win the tournament and now hold an 8-1 overall record for the season.

The Northwestern High School volleyball team was in Hudson Saturday for the Hudson Invitational. The Tigers defeated four teams to win the tournament and now hold an 8-1 overall record for the season.

NHS got past both Somerset and Menomonie in two games. The Tigers defeated Somerset 25-12, 25-23 and Menomonie 25-9, 25-12.

In the third match, NHS needed three games to claim victory over Bloomer. The Tigers won the first game 25-19 before Bloomer came back to take the second game 27-25. In a tie-break game up to 15 points, NHS came out on top with a close 15-11 win.

Northwestern faced Prescott in the championship match. This time, the Tigers found themselves playing from behind when Prescott won the opening game 27-25. NHS took the second game by a close margin, 26-24, and then closed out strong to win the tiebreaker, 15-6.

For the tournament, Lindsay Taipale led the team in kills and digs with 41 and 26, respectively. Anna Morgan had 38 kills and 21 digs for the Tigers, and Jaclyn Amys added 22 kills. Setter Lindsay Garay finished the day with 75 set assists.

The Tigers host Spooner Tuesday.
